Development-Life Skills is a Capacity Building support that funds training and development activities to increase a participant's ability to live as autonomously as possible, including the skills needed to travel and use public transport independently. Brighter Support Care delivers this support across Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich and the Gold Coast.
This is the key distinction between Development-Life Skills and supports like Household Tasks or Assist-Personal Activities. Those services help a participant get a task done. Development-Life Skills is about teaching and building the skill itself, with the goal that the participant can eventually manage more of that task independently.
We set goals tied to what's in the participant's NDIS plan, then review progress regularly and adjust the approach as skills build. Some participants focus on one specific skill, like using a particular bus route independently, while others work across several areas at once. Our support workers deliver this training in the real settings where the skill will actually be used, across all four regions we service.
What to expect: Sessions are hands-on and happen in real settings, not a classroom. If you're learning to cook a meal or use a bus route, that's exactly what the session looks like, with your support worker guiding rather than doing it for you.
Building a new skill takes patience and the right teaching approach, not just repetition. Brighter Support Care support workers across Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich and the Gold Coast take time to understand how each participant learns best, then build training around that as a registered NDIS provider.
